This storm perraded through Maine to New Jersey. with some places had 50 inches of snow. The greatest snow accumulated in central New England, and the greatest consequence was borne on New York City. About 400 people had lost their lives. The storm became known as The Blizzard of 1888 or The Great White Hurricane.The storm of 1888wasnt predictable, it just hit the town with out any warning. People scared out of there mind, thinking they would loose there jobs. People frozen to dealth returning to there homes. And the worst thing of all some people was even stranded in there homes for about 2 weeks causes-
causes- There needs to be several elements for a blizzard to occur.Cold air is needed to make snow. For snow to fall it needs to be cold up in the clouds to have snowflakes to form. Moisture is needed to form clouds and precipitation. Lastly, warm air must rise over cold air. When warm air and cold air are brought together.Warm air can also rise to form clouds and blizzard snows as it flows up a mountainside.This is exactly what happened to causes the blizzard of 1888. The temp. leading up to the blizzard were mild (40-50 degrees) with heavy rains and winds. On March 12 temp. dropped so the heavy rain turned to snow, and the winds picked up even more.
